The game Texas Hold Em originated strangely enough, from Texas in the 1900s & was brought to the mainstream audience in the 60s to the entertainment capital of the world Las Vegas.
Due to several of the big name companies in the UK, Europe & the States promoting the game, along with a continued advertisement campaign, this game has become a phenomenon in recent years.
Texas Hold Em is a another variation of Poker, where each player fights it out to win the pot.
After the initial amounts of money are in the pot called blinds, each player receives two cards faced down - referred to as pocket cards, from the dealer & the cards are dealt from left to right in a clockwise direction. The initial round of betting is call the preflop & any player(s) can call, raise of fold. After the initial round the dealer removes the top card from the pack to prevent cheating, referred to as the bum card. After this sequence of events the dealer then turns the next three community cards, referred to as the flip. From there another betting round ensues & player try to match up their two initial pocket cards, with the three community card now on the table. The player to the extreme left of the dealer begins another round of betting begins. The dealer turns over another community card called the turn & this is were the amounts increase.
Again the dealer turns over the final card, called the river. This is the point of the game were it all heats up & players have to decide their best hand, between the two initial pocketcards & the five community cards on the table. There is one final round of betting to sort the men out from the boys. All the players still in the game now have to reveal their best hand referred to as the showdown. The player with the best combination hand between their pocket cards & the community cards wins the pot. Quite a few folk are put off by Texas Hold Em because it seems quite complex, but once mastered can become quite a nice money spinner.
